..BUT.. ARE YOU LISTENING?
BUT… ARE YOU LISTENING?
Are You Listening will brace Reading again for a one-day extravaganza of the best new music around. This year the festival will be held on the 27th April and will showcase some of the biggest acts the UK has to offer and Reading’s finest local talent. A wave of artists has been announced- and this year’s instalment includes bands such as: Bad Sounds, Flamingods, Genghar, Kraft Kuts and Our Girl. These are just a few of the many acts who have been announced to play on the day- if the line up -hasn’t got you excited already, I am not sure what will.
For those of you who have been hiding under a rock and are not familiar with the festival. It’s a oneday festival based in Reading raising funds for the charity Mencap, which is a small local charity that supports children and adults with learning disabilities and autism. Are You Listening? Will also be working alongside Girls Against to stand against sexual harassment and intimidation within the live music scene. As well as raising awareness and funds for Reading Mencap. The Festival also strives to nurture and support the local music scene by ensuring that at least 70% of the artists performing each year are from Reading or the surrounding area.
This year the Festival returns and will be approaching is seventh birthday! The festival was first launched in 2013 and years later, the one-day Festival has raised nearly £60,000 for Reading Mencap, a local charity that supports people with Learning Disabilities and their families.
The critically acclaimed Festival has won ‘Festival of the year’ at the Reading Cultural Awards 2018, ‘Event of the Year’ at the inaugural Alt Reading Awards and has received nominations for two ‘Pride of
Reading’ Awards and a Reading Cultural Award for ‘Best Festival’ in 2017. A ticket entry will get you access to multiple venues around the town and will be hosted by some of the best UK venues: Including, Purple Turtle, Oakford, MILK, Rising Sun Arts Centre and South Street Arts Centre, Sub 89 and the beautiful St Laurences Church. I would highly recommend buying a ticket to avoid queues!
